Newsletter privacy

Your inbox. Your choice.

Where It Was is operated by Oliver Brinicombe-Scarr. Contact hello@whereitwas.com or write to 20 Moorside Road, Winchester, Hampshire, SO23 7RX, United Kingdom.

We use your affirmative consent to provide the newsletter you request: cultural places, guides and occasional platform news. We record your email address, the consent wording and version, signup source, and request, confirmation and withdrawal times. Membership is separate and does not subscribe you automatically.

Your request stays pending until you confirm your email. Confirmation links expire after 24 hours. Use the unsubscribe link in your welcome message to withdraw consent; account holders can also choose to unsubscribe when deleting their account. Unsubscribing leaves your account and saved discoveries intact. To request removal or a replacement unsubscribe link, contact hello@whereitwas.com.

Supabase stores consent and subscription records in Oregon, United States. Vercel hosts the website and server endpoints. Brevo delivers confirmation and newsletter messages from hello@whereitwas.com. Provider delivery and connection logs have their own retention arrangements. These providers may process data outside the United Kingdom; see Supabase’s privacy information, Vercel’s processing terms and Brevo’s privacy information. Contact us for details about applicable transfer safeguards.

Pending requests become eligible for deletion after seven days without confirmation. Active subscription and consent records remain while you are subscribed. After withdrawal, the minimal subscription and consent audit becomes eligible for deletion after three years. Server-side encrypted message payloads become eligible for deletion after 30 days and message-status diagnostics after 90 days. An hourly maintenance job removes eligible records in bounded batches, so removal can follow a cutoff by more than one run. Active unsubscribe links remain usable until redeemed or invalidated by a later request.

Our transactional messages are plain text and the adapter adds no tracking pixels. Brevo is set to track individual opens and clicks only with consent, and we mark every recipient as not consenting. Brevo keeps transactional logs for one month, does not store message previews and may keep aggregate deliverability statistics. Newsletter signup does not change your optional website analytics choice.

For access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability requests, email hello@whereitwas.com. We may verify ownership of the address without asking for your password or sign-in code. You can also raise a concern with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.
