Jackson, about an hour south of Atlanta
Jackson was the filming location for most of downtown Hawkins; the movie theater and the alley where Jonathan and Steve fought over Nancy are on the square. Most days the Surfer Boy Pizza van and Hopper’s police Blazer are parked around the square.

Melvald’s General Store, where Joyce Byers works, uses the building that now houses a Papa John’s. Next door, Jackson Escape Games is inside the show’s Radio Shack, where Bob worked; four of its five rooms have Stranger Things themes.

Jackson’s historic courthouse is now the town’s Welcome Center, and plays the Hawkins Public Library in the show. Before the last season aired, NBC News reported that the building would play a big role in it.

The lab, the school and the mall held the town together. One is gone, one is fenced while parts of its campus come down, and the county plans to pull most of the third one down.

Emory University’s Briarcliff campus, Druid Hills
Emory vacated it in 2024; parts of the campus are being demolished for a proposed senior living community. Signs on the property tell people not to enter or trespass.

South Lee Street, Stockbridge
Filming wrapped in mid-June 2024 and demolition followed; by October the back building was heavily demolished. A $73 million Henry STEM high school is due to open in Stockbridge in 2027, and the city hoped to keep the painted Hawkins High School bricks for downtown.
Nothing to see: the building is gone.
STARCOURTCOMING DOWN
2100 Pleasant Hill Road, Duluth
Most of the mall is slated for demolition. Gwinnett County and its redevelopment agency were due to own 87.5 acres of the site by October 2025, and opened a search for a development partner that September.
The old mall is closed: see it from the road and the car park.
The woods at night

Stone Mountain, 15 miles east of Atlanta
Wooded scenes and the railway tracks of seasons one and two were filmed in Stone Mountain Park. The park covers more than 3,200 acres and is open all year.

Stone Mountain Cemetery is the Hawkins cemetery where Max faces Vecna in season four. It dates from the 1850s and holds Civil War-era graves.

Off West Marietta St NW, Atlanta
The quarry appeared in Stranger Things, The Walking Dead and The Hunger Games before it became a park. The season one quarry scenes, with the bullies, were shot here. The quarry now holds a 2.4-billion-gallon reservoir at the heart of Atlanta’s largest park, renamed for former mayor Shirley Franklin in February 2025. The park opened in August 2021, with a Grand Overlook from a cliff above the quarry.
