The Bluebird Cafe
Swift got her first break at the Bluebird: Scott Borchetta of Big Machine saw her play the room as an eighth grader and offered her a record deal.
In 2018 she came back unannounced. The songwriter Craig Wiseman invited her up during his acoustic set.
She played Better Man, the song she wrote for Little Big Town, used Shake It Off to show how far three chords go, and closed with Love Story.
The room seats 90. In the Round, three or four songwriters sit in the middle and take turns playing their songs and telling the stories behind them.
Amy Kurland founded it; in 2008 she sold it to the Nashville Songwriters Association International, a nonprofit, in what the café calls more a donation than a sale.
A 90-seat listening room in a small strip mall outside downtown. Two shows a night, seven nights a week: In the Round usually Tuesday to Saturday, open mic on Mondays at 6pm. Book through the café’s own site.
