The Heelers’ house is drawn on a Brisbane Queenslander: high-set on stumps, with a deep veranda, in front of the city skyline. The house has no address. The parks, the river and the city around it are real, and you can go to every one.

The park sets the scene for Cricket. The rebound wall and basketball courts from the episode are here, now wrapped in a permanent mural, That’s What Cricket’s About, Kid!

The mural is the first in a series of murals around the world from BBC Studios’ Play The Bluey Way campaign.

Brisbane Kids says the episode copies the park down to the toilet block with the sloping roof. Queensland’s tourism site also links the park with the crocodile-dodging of Shadowlands.

A public park with the rebound wall and courts. Parking nearby is limited; the 382 bus stops right outside. Benjamina Place Park, from Turtleboy, is 1.7 km away.

Bluey is animated in-house at Ludo Studio in Fortitude Valley, where about 50 people work on it. Art director Costa Kassab draws its locations from real Brisbane places, and creator Joe Brumm chooses which ones.

Bluey premiered on ABC Kids on 1 October 2018, with 26 episodes airing daily through that October.

Where do the Heelers live?

The show’s houses are drawn on Brisbane’s typical Queenslanders: high-set suburban homes with verandas, set against Brisbane skylines. Queensland’s tourism site says no one can be sure where the Heelers live, and points to The Gap, a neighbourhood of Queensland homes similar to theirs. In Pass the Parcel, the party invitation is addressed to The Gap.

In 2019 ABC augmented-reality specialist Nathan Bazley spotted the Story Bridge in the background of an episode and used it to guess the Heelers’ suburb: Norman Park. Another fan read the bridge differently, which would put the family elsewhere; the makers confirmed neither.

There is no house to visit. Queensland’s tourism site suggests The Gap for streets of homes like it; walk them and leave the real houses to the people who live in them.
