Over budget

Called back to the studio

Wikipedia says Warner Bros. complained that the Texas location shoot ran over schedule and budget and ordered the crew back to the studio backlot, though the studio had already planned a return for final process shots.

Wikipedia gives the film’s budget as $2.5 million and its United States release as 13 August 1967.

A blogger says the film’s regional premiere was at the Campus Theater in Denton in September 1967, with Warren Beatty, Estelle Parsons and Michael J. Pollard attending.

Theatre Denton says the Campus Theatre was built in 1949 as a cinema, closed in 1985, reopened in 1995 as a performing arts venue, and was named a Texas State Historical Landmark in 2009.
