Euphoria

East Highland has no address. Its places do.

Euphoria premieres on HBO on 16 June 2019. Sam Levinson created it and writes every episode. Grant High School plays the outside of East Highland High; the corridors are a soundstage. The lights on this plate are the real places that made the town, 62 km from the ranch in the north to the mall in the south.

On Christmas Eve, Rue and her sponsor Ali talk in a diner about her relapse and about Jules. Ali tells her his own story, says he has faith in her, and they leave together.

Colman Domingo plays Ali, an older man with twelve years of sobriety and a relapse of his own in the past.

Frank’s Coffee Shop in Burbank was used for the location shooting of the first special, “Trouble Don’t Last Always”. Sky lists the diner at 924 West Olive Avenue, Burbank, and says it has been temporarily closed since December 2020.

In “Shook Ones Pt. II” (7 July 2019) Rue meets Ali in a diner; the scene is filmed at Pann’s. George and Rena Poulos opened Pann’s in 1958; Eldon Davis and Helen Liu Fong of Armet & Davis designed the building and its neon sign.
