Namibia · 2012 · filmed where the rain was not
The film was meant for Broken Hill. Heavy rain turned that desert green, so the production went to the Namib, where under 10 mm falls in a year. Seven places the sources tie to the shoot are waiting under the green.
Dry it out
Drag the rain down. While the desert is green, the seven places stay covered. When it is dry, open each one to see what the sources say.
Too green to film: 88 on the rain scale. Lower it to 25 or less.
The film was first meant to follow the earlier films to Broken Hill in New South Wales. Several years of unusually heavy rain turned that desert green, the list says, so a new desert was sought in Namibia.
Wikipedia adds that heavy rain made wildflowers grow around Broken Hill, and that filming moved back to Namibia in November 2011.

The location list calls the Citadel wholly invented: its termite-mound-style towers were built as sets at studios in South Africa and Sydney, then extended digitally.
Filming wrapped before the opening and closing Citadel scenes were shot. Pick-ups began on 22 November 2013 at Potts Hill and Penrith Lakes in Western Sydney and ended at Fox Studios Australia in December, Wikipedia says.
Principal photography began in July 2012, mostly in Namibia, and wrapped on 8 December 2012, Wikipedia says.
