Olivia Rodrigo was born on 20 February 2003 in Murrieta, California, and grew up in neighbouring Temecula.

She went to Lisa J. Mails Elementary and, for a year, Dorothy McElhinney Middle School, both in Murrieta, and was homeschooled from 2016 until she graduated in 2021.

Her first time on screen was an Old Navy advert in May 2010, when she was seven. Her first film was the lead, Grace Thomas, in An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success (2015). From 2016 to 2019 she played the guitarist Paige Olvera in the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark, for three seasons.

Production of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series began in Salt Lake City on 15 February 2019. Rodrigo played Nini Salazar-Roberts in the first two seasons and had a recurring role in the third.

She wrote an original song for the series, All I Want. The series launched on Disney+ on 12 November 2019, after a preview on Disney Channel, ABC and Freeform on 8 November. For the third season, set at a summer theatre camp, production moved from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles; she did not appear in the fourth.

Dan Nigro wrote and recorded most of Sour and Guts at his own Amusement Studios.

It began as his home studio and has since filled the whole house, after he and his family moved out. On drivers license he played his 1971 Yamaha U3 upright piano.

Sour came out on 21 May 2021, entered the Billboard 200 at number one and stayed there five weeks.

Robert Smith of the Cure joined her for Friday I’m in Love and Just Like Heaven. She played drivers license at the piano, and the night ended with fireworks over the field.

Her first Glastonbury was in 2022, on the Other Stage. The BBC recording of the 20-song set came out as a live album on 5 December 2025.
