The places behind the film.

Sites identified by primary location sources.

These film-specific property references are sourced separately from itinerary recommendations. Precise points and current access remain under review.

  • Tiananmen Gate · the actual named gate at which director Harald Zwart describes the completed two-hour shoot, separately from the Forbidden City palace complex and Tiananmen Square. The source’s promotional exclusivity claim is not adopted; no individual gate chamber, coordinate or current access inferred · Location source ↗
  • Mutianyu Great Wall section · the explicitly named Mutianyu section used for filming the Great Wall sequence. This does not identify a watchtower, stair, exact camera point, the entire Great Wall, or current access conditions; no map pin assigned · Location source ↗
  • Beiying Film Studios — historical physical production facility · the old physical studio described as the production base containing the constructed apartment exterior and MrHan home/garage sets. This is not a generic company credit or the separate Huairou film base; no modern successor campus, building address, stage, coordinate or current access inferred · Location source ↗
  • China Film Group Film Base — Huairou physical studio · the named physical Huairou studio with the FeiTeng hutong set, used for constructed apartment, auditorium and MountainTemple interiors and the QiXi festival set. The constructed temple is distinct from real Wudang mountain locations. No studio corporate headquarters, separate Beiying campus, stage number, GPS or visitor access inferred · Location source ↗

Location research.

Forbidden City filming needs a precise palace-complex binding.

The original distributor pressbook explicitly records filming inside the Forbidden City. Existing Palace Museum and Imperial Ancestral Temple records represent different institution or subset scopes; neither is automatically the full palace-complex Place. No whole-complex entity is created or existing museum/temple entity merged until the physical extent is reconciled. Generic airport, factory, school-campus and Art Center references also remain unpinned rather than guessed.
