A world beyond the screen

John Singleton’s film follows family, friendship and choices through the streets and gathering places of South Los Angeles.

The city is lived in, not presented as a backdrop for visitors. These references concentrate on commercial and public surroundings, leaving the private homes off the route. The film’s tragedies do not define the neighbourhood: arrive with the same respect you would bring to any community’s everyday spaces.

Locations are sequenced as a fan journey, not a plot recap. Songs, scenes and episodes lead the route; changed, private and doubled sites are labelled rather than smoothed into fiction.

Former Coley’s Kitchen

The former Coley’s Kitchen on Crenshaw became the restaurant where Furious and Reva talk. The business and frontage have changed since the film.

Before you go

Changed commercial premises. View the exterior from public space; the screen restaurant is not a preserved attraction.

Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza

The shopping centre parking lot appears in the film’s late revenge sequence. This is a historical filming reference within a working commercial site.

Before you go

Use authorised public areas during opening hours. The parking lot is a working space, not a scene recreation area.

What’s happening

A reason to stay longer.

Exact title and mapped-place matches come first. A clearly labelled city film or music programme may follow when it helps extend the journey.

No strong current event association is published for this World. We would rather leave this quiet than force a generic city listing.

A shared venue or neighbourhood connects a programme to the map; a city-level programme connects only to the World’s medium. Neither implies a themed event, cast appearance or artist performance. Confirm dates, location, access and tickets with the organiser.
