Via dell’Idroscalo

Via dell’Idroscalo anchors the The Two Popes route in the city’s real geography. Reconstructed Vatican interiors and Rome’s ecclesiastical geography reveal how production design can make private debate feel monumental.

How it fits the journey

The skeletal launch tower for Guido’s abandoned science-fiction film was built on Via dell’Idroscalo at Lido di Ostia. It is the film’s clearest monument to ambition without conviction.
