Sony’s release archive supports two exact Tokyo performance anchors: Nippon Budokan and the former Shinjuku Koma Theater, without turning generic record shops or neon districts into YMO sites.

A world beyond the screen
Follow two Tokyo stages that Sony’s own release archive connects directly to YMO, with the vanished Shinjuku venue clearly separated from the arena that still stands.
YMO’s Tokyo geography is too often padded with fashionable neighbourhoods, electronics shops and generic record culture. The evidence here supports a smaller route: Nippon Budokan, where Sony documents performances in 1980 and 1983, and Shinjuku Koma Theater, where the 1981 Winter Live recording was made across three December nights. The Koma auditorium is gone and its replacement is labelled honestly; no studio address is promoted until a title-level record establishes it.

Sony Music’s YMO archive identifies Budokan performances on 23 April and 27 December 1980, and 13 December 1983. The venue is an exact performance relationship, not thematic Tokyo context.

Sony Music documents YMO’s Winter Live recordings at Shinjuku Koma Theater on 22–24 December 1981. The theater closed in 2008; the current Shinjuku Toho Building occupies the former site.
Before you go
Read the address from the public street or visit current businesses normally. Do not expect the 1981 auditorium to survive.
