Lombardy’s tourist board picks out this Renaissance gateway and its square as the film’s scenery. The arch of the Torrazzo, by the cathedral, is among the Crema streets, squares and monuments that appear in the film.
The film covers much of Crema’s old town. Crema sits on the River Serio, about an hour from Milan. Guadagnino’s verdict on it: “It’s just Italy.”

Elio: this side · Oliver: the far side

In the middle of the town square, open at all hours. The castle is a minute’s walk.

The castle stands in the background of the film’s scenes in Pandino’s main square. Bernabò Visconti and Regina della Scala had it built from about 1355. Council offices, a library and a dairy school’s canteen fill the ground floor; the upper rooms, among them the Sala del Drago, are used for visits.

Bergamo is where Oliver and Elio spend the last days of their romance.

In Bergamo’s upper town the two dance with new friends in Piazza Rosate and by Santa Maria Maggiore. Literary Traveler puts their drunken wander of the last days in front of the basilica.
Its foundation stone was laid in 1133, after drought, plague and famine; the composer Gaetano Donizetti is buried inside. It has no main door at the front: four side doors stand under porches, with stone lions at their bases.

Valbondione · Cascate del Serio
Lombardy’s tourist board confirms that a scene of the film was shot at the falls. In it, the two young men run across a grassy slope. The falls drop 315 metres in three leaps, and run only on the days the Barbellino dam is opened.
Pick a release day first. There were five in 2026.
The river has been regulated for hydroelectric power since 1931. The 2026 releases were on 13 June, 11 July (at night, lit up), 16 August, 13 September and 11 October, each for half an hour.
The falls run only on release days, for about half an hour. The 2026 releases are over; the last was on 11 October. The walk up from Valbondione takes about an hour and a half.
