Michigan to Cincinnati

Hold him up.

Iggy, then 23, left the stage, went into the crowd and stood up on the fans’ shoulders. Pass him the same way across Michigan: point at the crowd to lift it, then hand him on. Only the next hand can take him.

Coachville Gardens

James Osterberg, later Iggy Pop, grew up at Coachville Gardens, on the east side of Carpenter Road south of Packard.

Last show, then cars.

9 February 1974. The last show.

The Stooges played their last show here on 9 February 1974. A hostile crowd pelted the band with ice, coins and beer bottles.

The live album Metallic K.O. takes its name from the night. The Stooges did not play another concert until 2003.

On 13 May 2016 Iggy Pop played here with Josh Homme, Dean Fertita and Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens of the Stone Age, Matt Helders of Arctic Monkeys and Matt Sweeney.

The set drew almost entirely on Post Pop Depression, with songs from The Idiot and Lust for Life. The film and live album came out on 28 October 2016.

Post Pop Depression was made mainly at Homme’s home studio in Joshua Tree. The two paid for it themselves and recorded in secret.
