Season one · Maui · 2021

One resort,
the whole season.

Season one of The White Lotus was filmed and set at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, from October to December 2020. The resort’s adult pool was a central filming location in season one.

In November 2020 the production was about halfway through eight weeks of filming here, with about 200 Maui residents hired as extras and about 100 in the crew.

Season two · Sicily · 2022

A monastery
with a pool.

San Domenico Palace stood in for the Italian White Lotus in season two. It was once a 15th-century monastery and is now a Four Seasons hotel. It sits on a rocky promontory with a cliff-top infinity pool, Italian gardens and Michelin-starred dining.

The Testa di Moro vases first appear in episode one, when Harper and Ethan check into their room and ask a member of staff about them; they turn up around the hotel all season. The story is an old one about an unfaithful lover and a woman’s revenge; we will leave the details in Sicily.

A working hotel. Guests have the pool and gardens; a drink at the bar or a meal is the way in for everyone else.

Not one hotel.
Four, and two temples.

The White Lotus Thailand looks like one resort. It was filmed across Koh Samui, Phuket and Bangkok. Thread the welcome garland one flower at a time; each flower is a place you can go.

Season four · the Riviera · filming 2026

Two hotels,
one festival.

The season takes place over one week during the Cannes Film Festival; it is filming in Cannes, Saint-Tropez and Monaco, with some scenes in Paris. HBO announced in April 2026 that filming had begun on the French Riviera. No premiere date had been announced when we checked on 8 October 2026.

White Lotus du Cap

For season four, Airelles Château de la Messardière becomes the “White Lotus du Cap”. It was built in the 19th century as a cavalry officer’s wedding gift to his bride, and stands in a 13-hectare park above Saint-Tropez with 86 rooms and suites.
