The Wasteland outside the Vault is filmed in Kolmanskop, a diamond town the desert took back. The town was abandoned in 1956; visitors now walk through houses knee-deep in sand.

The wreck of the Eduard Bohlen, stranded since 1909, appears in a scene.
The cargo ship ran aground in thick fog on 5 September 1909 while unloading equipment for a diamond mine. The wreck now lies in the sand about 400 metres from the shoreline.
The first view of Lucy coming out of the Vault into the Wasteland is filmed in Namibia with the sun low.

Kolmanskop
Kolmanskop is where the snake-oil salesman’s scenes were shot.
A railway worker found a diamond here in 1908, and a German-style town grew up with a hospital, a ballroom, a theatre and a casino.
It lies in the restricted area of the Namib, so visitors need a permit; it is run as a tourist site by Namdeb.
Inside the restricted diamond area: you need a permit to enter. Arrange the permit and a tour before you drive out from Lüderitz.
