A Michigan school year from 1980, filmed under Los Angeles sun. The town is named after the creator’s real school.
Mount Clemens, the 1970s
Growing up in Mount Clemens, Feig performs magic shows with jokes supplied by his father, who runs the Ark Surplus Store on Gratiot Avenue.
Nineteen years after he left school, Feig did the trick again: a Michigan school year, cut away and put together in California.
The box is whole. Three strokes of the saw to part Michigan from California.
Three strokes, six places.
The school, the town and the way out: each stroke parts where Paul Feig grew up from where his show was made.
William McKinley High School
The pilot is filmed in a real school; the rest of the series is shot on a set made to look exactly like it.

Ulysses S. Grant High School, Oxnard Street, Valley Glen.
Republic World names Ulysses S. Grant High School in the Van Nuys area as one of the two schools that played William McKinley High.

Walk Main Street from Newhall station; a farmers’ market runs every Saturday, 8:30am to 1pm (City of Santa Clarita).

Named, not mapped
Giggster’s guide places Lindsay and Sam’s house, where the “Beers and Weirs” party happens, on Heritage Lane in Newhall. With the Weir parents away, Sam, Neal and Bill swap the freaks’ keg for fake beer so nobody gets drunk, and the party behaves as if they had anyway.
Samm Levine says the party itself was shot on a soundstage.
A street of private homes. It is named here, not mapped: do not visit the house or photograph it. The photograph shows Newhall station, not the street.
Griffith Park, Los Angeles
