Count it in.

They counted the set off with a shout: one, two, three, four. A Ramones show back then could be six songs in a quarter of an hour. Hit 1, 2, 3, 4 in order and the next place goes off. Six songs; a wrong count starts again.

The corner of 67th Avenue and 110th Street, in front of Forest Hills High School, was named The Ramones Way on 30 October 2016.

The City Council passed the naming and Mayor de Blasio signed it. Joey’s brother, Mickey Leigh, is a longtime local.

Joey Ramone Place

E 2 St. Not yet.

The corner of the Bowery and East 2nd Street became Joey Ramone Place on 30 November 2003. Joey had died of cancer in 2001.

A fan, Maureen Wojciechowski, first proposed it, helped by Punk magazine’s John Holmstrom and the band’s artist Arturo Vega.

Albert’s Garden

Roberta Bayley photographed the band against a brick wall here, at a community garden on East 2nd Street, in 1976.

She was shooting for Punk magazine. Sire Records then chose the picture for the first album’s cover. Sire paid her a flat $125, which was her rent at the time.

The stone wall at the back adjoins the New York Marble Cemetery. Volunteers sometimes hold jazz nights and poetry readings here.

No copy of the cover here; the photograph is Roberta Bayley’s.
