A documentary crew follows a paper company in a small Pennsylvania city for nine years, and the staff keep looking into the lens. The city is real and you can walk it. The office was a studio lot in Los Angeles. Take the camera.

The crew filmed Dunder Mifflin for nine years, and in the last season one of them finally stepped out from behind it. Now the places of Scranton sit down for their interviews. Ask a question. Then do what everyone in that office did: look straight into the lens.

The real
paper company.

The tower in the opening credits belongs to Pennsylvania Paper & Supply Company, the real Scranton paper firm that inspired the fictional Dunder Mifflin. John Krasinski, who played Jim, filmed the opening credits from his car, this building included. The company later put a Dunder Mifflin sign on the tower.

The building dates from the 1880s and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Jerry Fink bought it in 1977. In 2024 the family asked fans for $295,000 to repair the tower; donors could get an engraved brick or a Dundie.
