Großer Stern, Tiergarten
The Victory Column
In the film the column is one of the high places where the angels sit and look down on the city.
In the film, the gilded angel on the column is a replica made in the studio.
Heinrich Strack designed the column, inaugurated on 2 September 1873. In 1938–39 the Nazis moved it from Königsplatz to the Großer Stern and raised it by about 6.5 metres.
Berliners call the gilded Victoria Goldelse. The viewing platform is directly beneath her, 285 steps up.
