Britney: Piece of Me opened at The AXIS, the theatre inside Planet Hollywood, on 27 December 2013. The premiere played to a sold-out house in the rebuilt theatre.

The venue closed in late October 2012 for a $20 million rebuild; the longer stage cut it to 4,600 seats. After 248 shows the residency ended on 31 December 2017, having sold 916,184 tickets. The hall opened in 1976 as the Aladdin Theatre; it was The AXIS from 2013 to 2018 and is PH Live today.
The residency ran inside the conservatorship: every one of those nights fell between 2008 and 2021.
The theatre inside the resort, now PH Live, still holds concerts and shows; the casino floor is open to adults.

The conservatorship
In January 2008 she was admitted to hospital for psychiatric care, twice in one month.
Early 2008
- 1 February 2008 On 1 February 2008 a Los Angeles County Superior Court commissioner placed her in a temporary conservatorship, with her father, Jamie Spears, and the lawyer Andrew Wallet as conservators.
- 2008 to 2021 The case was heard at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, where #FreeBritney supporters rallied outside.
- 2019 Early in 2019 she announced an indefinite hiatus, and a second Las Vegas residency was cancelled.
- 23 June 2021 On 23 June 2021 she spoke to the court in public for the first time and asked for the conservatorship to end.
- July 2021 In July 2021 she was allowed to choose her own lawyer, Mathew Rosengart.
- 12 November 2021 On 12 November 2021 Judge Brenda Penny ended the conservatorship, after nearly 14 years. The ruling met no objections and needed no mental evaluation; what the conservatorship had held moved to a trust.
