The city was in the opening titles. The titles are real. In the opening title sequence the family is in Alamo Square Park, across from the Painted Ladies. Inside, the family lived on a set in Burbank. But the city in the titles is real, the house with the red door is real, and you can sit on that lawn. Lay out the blanket and start the car.

The opening credits begin with the Tanners on the Golden Gate Bridge.

Built during the Great Depression, the bridge carries about 40 million vehicles a year.

The lawn: Alamo Square

Alamo Square Park, at Steiner and Hayes streets, is the park across from the Painted Ladies in the opening title sequence. A Full House fan who picnicked here in 2017 found the park much as it looked on television.

The park reopened on 24 May 2017 after about a year of work: new trees, new grass, drought-resistant plants and better water efficiency.

A free public park, open every day. Climb the lawn on the Steiner Street side for the view of the row and the towers behind.

1709 Broderick Street · a private home

Paint the
door red.

While most of the show was filmed in a studio, the Tanners’ house is real: 1709 Broderick Street. Its red door has been repainted since filming. The creator of Full House, Jeff Franklin, bought the Victorian in 2016 for roughly $4 million. The door had been painted light green, which confused fans looking for it; restoring the red doors was one of his first changes.

Light green. The fans walk straight past: in 2016 the green door confused people looking for the house.

Volume 8 of 10. Neighbours have posted a sign asking fans to be quieter.

  2. 2016By 2016 the door had been painted light green and fans could not find the house; Jeff Franklin bought it and painted the doors red again.
  3. 2020–2025Franklin spent about $2 million restoring the exterior, sold it in November 2020 for $5.35 million, and in April 2025 it sold again, for $6 million.
  4. 2022In 2022 fans left flowers at the house after Bob Saget’s death. Concrete slabs in the back garden carry the stars’ handprints and signatures.
