Mark Scout works at Lumon Industries, where staff have had a procedure that splits their memories between work and home. One self clocks in, the other drives home. The show was split the same way: Lumon is a real office building in New Jersey you can walk into, Kier is a string of towns up the Hudson, and one company town is a harbour in Newfoundland. Adam Scott and Britt Lower are pictured as themselves.

On the show, the elevator is where the switch happens. At Bell Works the atrium is real, and so is the water tower on the drive. Go down for the innie’s Lumon; come back up for the outie’s building.

Minnewaska State Park Preserve · the outing
Minnewaska State Park Preserve became Woe’s Hollow for season two, episode four. The episode opens with Irving waking alone on the ice. A warm spell melted the lake, so the crew used a dock and earlier footage of it frozen. The park manager, Eric Humphrey, called it the largest shoot the park had hosted: winter 2023, weekdays only, almost two full weeks of filming.
A state park: $10 a car, open from 9am (to 6pm until 31 October, 5pm from November). Lots close when full.
The show calls Awosting Falls the tallest waterfall on the planet. It is a popular fall beside a short trail, and not even the park’s tallest.

Sam’s Point, with its giant boulder on the cliff edge, appears during the retreat. It is the park’s most southerly section, on the highest part of the Shawangunk Mountains.
Ben Stiller described a real hike of about 30 minutes to the ice cave, with the crew carrying heavy cameras.

Bonavista Peninsula, Newfoundland
In May 2023 the Bonavista Peninsula became Salt’s Neck, a run-down Lumon company town, for a single episode: the eighth of season two, “Sweet Vitriol”. Ben Stiller wanted the place to feel north-east of Kier; the cinematographer Jessica Lee Gagné suggested Newfoundland.
The spring weather was mild, so crews shipped in ice to make snow; it lasted nearly three weeks after filming. Crush the ice and see.
