Hill, Cera and Mintz-Plasse in October 2007, two months after release. Zip the night

One night, spread across a city: a school in El Segundo, two shops in Glendale, a bar in Westchester, parties in Northridge and Brentwood, and a mall the next morning.

The sleepover · written after the first draft

Zip the night.

The night in the film runs from a school in El Segundo to a mall in Culver City, by way of Glendale, Westchester, Northridge and Brentwood. The first draft stopped at the party. The two sleeping bags on Evan’s floor, and the morning at the mall, came later. Pull the zip up through the night.

Nothing zipped yet. The first stop is a school on Main Street, El Segundo.

Clark Secondary, as the film calls it

Two schools.

On screen the school is in El Segundo. In life it was in Vancouver: the film is loosely based on the writers’ last year at Point Grey Secondary.

The film’s Clark Secondary is El Segundo High School; Jules invites Seth to her party here.

The school’s front entrance is seen in the film.

It has played a school in other films too, WarGames among them.

Glendale, twice.

The boys are too young to buy drink and have promised to bring drink to a party. None of it goes to plan: one loses his nerve in a supermarket, another is knocked to the floor when a shop is robbed. Here are the shops as they are.

7 Days Food Store

It plays TJ’s Liquor, where Fogell is knocked down when the shop is robbed and meets two police officers.

Filmoblivion says it was a real liquor store, and puts the scene where Seth is hit by a car in the same car park.

CSUN’s page puts that collision in Northridge instead, at Community Street and Jamieson Avenue.

Seth Rogen was first meant to play Seth. By the time it was made he was too old and too big for the part, so he played Officer Michaels, with Bill Hader as Officer Slater. Rogen suggested Hader after the two got on while making You, Me and Dupree.
